Celtic Renewables win Chemical Industry Association’s Sustainability Award
  • June 17, 2022

Celtic Renewables are the proud winners of the Sustainability Award at this year’s Chemical Industry Awards. The awards are the premier accolades for the UK chemical industry and are designed to offer a unique opportunity to highlight and promote excellent performance at the company, site or individual level.

The Sustainability Award is for the company that can demonstrate excellence in sustainability, through its products, manufacturing processes, supply chain and policies. The judges were looking for demonstrable leadership, and a commitment to sustainable development exemplified in its culture, strategies, and commitment to continuously improving its environmental, economic and social performance.

“All of us at Celtic Renewables are delighted to be recognised with this prestigious award. The company is built on sustainability and we are committed to playing our part in achieving net-zero.”

Prof Martin Tangney OBE, Celtic Renewables Founder and President

The Chemical Industry Awards are open to any company that manufactures chemicals or pharmaceuticals in the UK as well as companies that provide products or services to the sector. Celtic Renewables has built the first biorefinery in the country where it produces high-value low-carbon sustainable chemicals – acetone, butanol and ethanol – from biological residues, including the by-products of the whisky industry.

The annual event is an inspiring celebration of the achievements of one of the UK’s most dynamic and significant business sectors. This year’s Awards Ceremony was held at The Royal Armouries, Leeds on 16 June 2022 where the host for the evening was TV Presenter Amy Garcia. Celtic Renewables was represented by Business Development Manager Lee Mackie who picked up the trophy on behalf of the company.

“The chemicals industry is a huge and vital sector that is currently dependent on oil and gas for its raw material. Our chemicals are produced entirely from biological residues and they can replace existing petrochemicals with green sustainable alternatives that we use in everyday products from healthcare to hygiene. Biobased chemicals, such as our products at Celtic Renewables, represent the future for the chemicals sector and we are delighted to receive this recognition.”

Mark Simmers, Celtic Renewables CEO
